I was actually first introduced to Brian Ulrich's work this summer when I unknowingly went to one of his gallery openings, my first in NYC. When I first saw his work of closed businesses I was honestly not impressed. I thought anyone with a camera could have taken those pictures and thought the concept was just based around the current global economy crash, it's interesting to find out that it all started after President Bush asked our nation to shop as a way to fight terrorism post 9/11. After hearing him speak I have a little more respect for his work but am still not overly impressed with his imagery as a whole. I respect the way he has essentially followed the marketing trail/consumerism to this point and I can see his process, especially since he has it broken into 4 categories. Also after looking through his website I have also found quite a few images that are wonderfully done which makes me wonder why they weren't included in his show this summer.
